MTN Benin CEO Stephen Blewett has been ordered to leave the country, the mobile operator said on Friday.<\/p>\n

Blewett has received official notification from the government of Benin, requesting him to leave the country by 24 November 2017, over \u201cactivities detrimental to security and public order\u201d.<\/p>\n

“MTN has taken note of the government\u2019s concerns, however refutes these allegations. Mr Blewett will abide by the government\u2019s request and will leave Benin by the date stipulated by local authorities,” the group said.<\/p>\n

The news follows an announcement by the Benin government that it will be fining MTN Benin to the tune of R3 billion, for unpaid spectrum fees.<\/p>\n

MTN has maintained that the fees being charged by the country’s regulator is excessive.<\/p>\n
