Online retailer\u00a0Amazon.com<\/a> is hiring up to 611 people in South Africa, as it looks to expand its footprint in the region.<\/p>\n

In April, the e-commerce giant said it was looking to hire as many as 50 high-tech computer engineers to expand its development centre in Cape Town. According to a spokesperson for the group, all those positions have since been filled.<\/p>\n

However, Amazon said it would continue its growth path through 2013, and is back on the hunt.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s spokesperson told BusinessTech: \u201c576 seasonal positions for customer service agents are now available as part of Amazon’s growth strategy in SA.”<\/p>\n

\u201cAn additional 35 permanent engineering positions are available at Amazon web services (AWS). The majority of positions are for locals,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Amazon’s Customer Service Centre already houses 800 hundred employees, while its\u00a0development centre is expanding to accommodate 100 employees.<\/p>\n
