{"id":214831,"date":"2017-12-05T13:40:49","date_gmt":"2017-12-05T11:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=214831"},"modified":"2017-12-05T13:40:49","modified_gmt":"2017-12-05T11:40:49","slug":"molefe-worth-r30-million-because-he-stopped-load-shedding-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/214831\/molefe-worth-r30-million-because-he-stopped-load-shedding-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Molefe worth R30 million because he stopped load shedding: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom executive support manager Anton Minnaar has told Parliament\u2019s inquiry into state capture that former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe R30 million pension payout was worthwhile &#8211; as he helped defeat load shedding.<\/p>\n<p>Minnaar was the first witness to give evidence at the inquiry on Tuesday, reports <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fin24.com\/Economy\/eskom-inquiry-continues-singh-and-board-to-testify-20171205\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fin24<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether\u00a0he believed that Molefe should have been given a R30 million payout after 18 months at the power utility, Minnaar said it depended on the performance of the individual. Minnaar said that Molefe managed to break the back of load shedding under his watch.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If he can stop load shedding, I will pay him,&#8221; Minnaar said.<\/p>\n<p>Minnaar also told the committee that he was of the view that Molefe had always been a permanent employee at the power utility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear in my view, that we appointed him as a permanent employee. We have never been advised differently,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Minaar also indicated that, while Molefe had signed a fixed-term contract, he understood this as a permanent fixed term, and not a contract term.
