{"id":21522,"date":"2012-09-05T15:53:06","date_gmt":"2012-09-05T13:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=21522"},"modified":"2012-09-06T16:23:19","modified_gmt":"2012-09-06T14:23:19","slug":"dti-calls-for-suspension-of-pirates-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/21522\/dti-calls-for-suspension-of-pirates-internet\/","title":{"rendered":"Dti calls for suspension of pirates&#8217; Internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The minister of trade and industry, <a title=\"Rob Davies\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2775-Rob-Davies\">Rob Davies<\/a>, recently released the \u201cCopyright Review Commission\u201d report, calling for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to suspend Internet access to repeat copyright infringement offenders.<\/p>\n<p>The Copyright Review Commission report makes wide-ranging recommendations, which include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the establishment of an inter-ministerial committee;<\/li>\n<li>the non-compliance with copyright-related rights may lead to the termination of licences issued by Independent Communications Authority of South Africa&#8217;s; and<\/li>\n<li>the collecting structure of collecting societies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The release of the report is a precursor to a meeting President <a title=\"Jacob Zuma\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2611-Jacob-Zuma\">Jacob Zuma<\/a> will hold with the creative industry in November 2012.<\/p>\n<p>One of the recommendations in the report is set to lift eyebrows in the Internet arena.
