{"id":21555,"date":"2012-09-06T10:04:53","date_gmt":"2012-09-06T08:04:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=21555"},"modified":"2012-09-06T15:47:23","modified_gmt":"2012-09-06T13:47:23","slug":"absa-mobile-banking-a-hit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/21555\/absa-mobile-banking-a-hit\/","title":{"rendered":"Absa mobile banking a hit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Banking group <a title=\"Absa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1877-Absa-Bank\">Absa<\/a> says it has\u00a03.6 million customers registered for mobile banking.<\/p>\n<p>The group says that growth patterns in the use of its mobile website have exceeded expectations seeing over 1.3 million page views each month.<\/p>\n<p>The bank has also seen year-on-year growth of 450% in mobile traffic, largely due to the portal\u2019s redefined user experience, optimised for mobile visitors, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Absa, which boasts 12.2 million customers,\u00a0expects to launch its long-awaited application in Q1 2013, but the bank promises a more integrated and broader approach to mobile banking than other platforms in the market currently offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly the mobile channel has reached a tipping point \u2013 with users now using their cellphones for far more than just simple banking transactions or SMS alerts,\u201d said Absa\u2019s head of retail markets, <a title=\"Arrie Rautenbach\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4707-Arrie-Rautenbach\">Arrie Rautenbach<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSmartphones and feature phones are increasingly popular in the local market; data costs are declining; and users are generally becoming more comfortable using the mobile apps,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Absa\u2019s range of services on its mobi site\u00a0includes \u2018find a product\u2019 tools that serve up appropriate package offerings based on simple information, instant credit bureau checks, ATM, branch locators and calculators.<\/p>\n<p>The portal also contains a suite of information on current promotions, product offerings, and the latest news from financial markets globally. Absa.mobi is also the doorway to the secure WAP-based mobile banking platform.<\/p>\n<p>Rautenbach says that the growth in the mobile portal usage mirrors the bank\u2019s strong play in other areas of the mobile channel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now have over seven million people subscribed for SMS transactional alerts via our NotifyMe service \u2013 receiving almost a billion SMSes annually.
