{"id":216983,"date":"2017-12-16T09:55:24","date_gmt":"2017-12-16T07:55:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=216983"},"modified":"2017-12-16T09:55:24","modified_gmt":"2017-12-16T07:55:24","slug":"nersa-grants-eskom-5-23-tariff-increase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/216983\/nersa-grants-eskom-5-23-tariff-increase\/","title":{"rendered":"Nersa grants Eskom 5.23% tariff increase"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel-pane pane-panels-mini pane-content-top\">\n<div class=\"panel-pane pane-page-title\">\n<p>The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has granted power parastatal Eskom an average percentage price increase of 5.23% for the 2018\/19 financial year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"panel-pane pane-views-panes pane-news-story-specific-panel-pane-2\">\n<div class=\"view view-news-story-specific view-id-news_story_specific view-display-id-panel_pane_2 view-dom-id-33862c9e0382ce0227f8fbf3f19c7978\">\n<div class=\"view-content\">\n<div class=\"views-row views-row-1 views-row-odd views-row-first views-row-last\">\n<div class=\"views-field views-field-body\">\n<div class=\"field-content\">\n<p>The regulator announced its decision on Friday, 15 December after Eskom had applied for a 19.9% average increase in electricity tariffs for 2018\/19, which would have resulted in total allowable revenue of R219.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the 5.23% tariff increase granted by Nersa will give Eskom allowable revenue of R190.348 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Nersa said it had followed due regulatory processes in considering Eskom\u2019s revenue application for 2018\/19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn 13 September 2017, Eskom\u2019s application was published on Nersa\u2019s website, along with an invitation to stakeholders to submit written comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of 23 000 written comments were received from stakeholders, consisting of comments from private individuals, small users, intensive energy users, non-governmental organisations and environmental activists, as well as local government and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe energy regulator conducted public hearings in eight provinces of South Africa from 30 October to 22 November 2017. The public hearings afforded interested and affected stakeholders the opportunity to submit their views, facts and evidence.
