Government school matriculants will have to wait a little longer as the\u00a0Department of Basic Education (DBE) has announced that the results for the 2017 matric exams will be released by the Minister of Education on 5 January 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.za\/speeches\/president-jacob-zuma-new-year-message-31-dec-2017-0000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The transformation of higher education will be a major area of focus for the ANC government in 2018.<\/a><\/strong> This is according to president Jacob Zuma&#8217;s\u00a0New Year&#8217;s Eve message delivered on Sunday, in which he\u00a0outlined some of the areas that his government would continue to focus on in 2018.\u00a0Renewed economic growth, radical socio-economic transformation,\u00a0free education and the\u00a0beginning of a &#8220;skills revolution&#8221; are all high on the agenda, he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/sunday-times\/news\/2017-12-29-ruling-tightens-noose-for-zuma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">However the Constitutional Court judgement ruling released on Friday could mean that the president may not remain in power ahead of the 2019 general elections<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0The court directed the National Assembly to establish rules on how to impeach a president, adding that it had failed to determine whether Zuma had breached section 89(1)(a) or (b) of the constitution. This puts more pressure on Zuma to negotiate an early exit that would spare him the embarrassment of being impeached, analysts said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressreader.com\/south-africa\/the-mercury\/textview\">Universities South Africa (Usaf) has warned of possible mayhem at campuses following a call by the EFF for people who could not afford to study in the past, to join registration queues when universities open<\/a><\/strong>.
