{"id":217541,"date":"2018-01-02T17:15:14","date_gmt":"2018-01-02T15:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=217541"},"modified":"2018-01-02T17:15:14","modified_gmt":"2018-01-02T15:15:14","slug":"huawei-marine-targets-new-submarine-cable-for-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/217541\/huawei-marine-targets-new-submarine-cable-for-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Huawei Marine targets new submarine cable for South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Huawei Marine says it has commenced work on Desk Study and Marine Survey works in conjunction with key investor Tropic Science to construct the Pakistan East Africa Cable Express (PEACE) submarine cable, which connects South Asia with East Africa.<\/p>\n<p>With initial work underway, the project is targeted for completion in Q4, 2019.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mm-0\" class=\"mm-page mm-slideout\">\n<div>\n<article class=\"news-release carousel-template\">\n<section class=\"release-body container no-margin-bottom \">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-10 col-sm-offset-1\">\n<p>The first phase of the PEACE cable system spanning 6,200 kilometers in length will link <span class=\"xn-location\">Pakistan<\/span> (Gwadar and <span class=\"xn-location\">Karachi<\/span>), <span class=\"xn-location\">Djibouti<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Somalia<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Kenya<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The second phase will provide the extended option to <span class=\"xn-location\">South Africa<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> with a total length of about 13,000 km.<\/p>\n<p>The submarine cable system based on 200G DWDM technology, will provide up to 60T design capacity. The PEACE system will provide a new information expressway for the interconnection among <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Africa<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> by connecting with the existing land and subsea cables, greatly reducing the route length and latency between Chine-Africa and <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mao Shengjiang, COO of Huawei Marine said: \u201cWe are pleased to commence work on this important project to ensure a timely delivery programme.
