Online retailer, Takealot.com<\/a>, has appointed Jacques Van Niekerk<\/a> as its new chief technology officer, as well as placing former Amazon.com<\/a> developer, Willem van Biljon<\/a> on its board.<\/p>\n

Van Niekerk boasts experience in the online space, having been with MIH\/Naspers as CEO (MIH SWAT) and CTO (MIH Internet Group), since 2006. He will replace the current CTO, David Turner.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Takealot has also appointed Willem van Biljon to its board to boost the company’s technical expertise.<\/p>\n

Van Biljon has previously worked at Amazon.com, and was one of the team leads who started EC2 (Amazon\u2019s Cloud solution).<\/p>\n

Prior to Amazon, Van Biljon co-founded Mosaic software. He also co-founded cloud infrastructure software company, Nimbula.<\/p>\n

Takealot.com has been building its business since the acquisition of Take2.co.za in October 2010, the online retailer said.<\/p>\n

The business has expanded its warehouse capacity to Johannesburg and Cape Town; concluded the purchase of a shareholding in Mr. Delivery Express to aid distribution; and expanded category selection to include Sport, Home and Kitchen, Baby and Toddler and Beauty along with the traditional media products.<\/p>\n

“Technology is the lifeblood of the organization and the addition of Willem to provide strategic input on the Board and Jacques to the management team is very exciting for us, ” said Takealot CEO, Kim Reid<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“This will place us at the forefront of e-commerce development on the continent and allow us to continue to attract superior technical talent, execute and achieve.\u201d<\/p>\n
