{"id":219697,"date":"2018-01-17T11:49:43","date_gmt":"2018-01-17T09:49:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=219697"},"modified":"2018-01-17T11:49:43","modified_gmt":"2018-01-17T09:49:43","slug":"this-awesome-ram-bakkie-could-be-coming-to-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/219697\/this-awesome-ram-bakkie-could-be-coming-to-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"This awesome Ram bakkie could be coming to South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The iconic US-based Ram pick-up may on its way to South Africa, according to Australian site Motoring.com.au, and as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iol.co.za\/motoring\/industry-news\/american-ram-bakkie-could-come-to-sa-report-12763092\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Independent Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Manley, head of Jeep Brand and Ram Brand, FCA &#8211; Global, told Motoring.com.au that demand for pick-ups in markets including Australia and South Africa could, &#8216;could help the turn the tide for the lighter, more advanced new Ram&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause it\u2019s not just Australia you know. [There\u2019s] South Africa as well \u2026 some of the mines use right-hand drive too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s something we continue to look at. We\u2019re very closely tied to those guys in those markets,&#8221; Manley told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motoring.com.au\/new-ram-1500-could-go-global-110602\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">motoring website<\/a>. \u201cIf it becomes viable, you\u2019ll see it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ram Trucks, stylised as RAM, is a United States-based brand of light to mid-weight commercial vehicles established in 2010 as a division of FCA US LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.<\/p>\n<p>Two bakkies dominated the South African landscape in 2017 &#8211; the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger &#8211; selling 36,422, and 32,811 units respectively, ahead of third placed Volkswagen Polo Vivo, with 28,402 units.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 RAM 1500 made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show this week, with the current model starting at $26,495 (R325,500).<\/p>\n<p>The Ram would follow the likes of Mercedes-Benz, which is set to launch its X-Class bakkie in the country
