{"id":22140,"date":"2012-09-14T10:23:38","date_gmt":"2012-09-14T08:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=22140"},"modified":"2012-09-14T13:33:55","modified_gmt":"2012-09-14T11:33:55","slug":"msn-business-set-for-growth-in-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/22140\/msn-business-set-for-growth-in-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"MSN business set for growth in 2013: Kagiso"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"JSE\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1663-JSE-Limited\">JSE<\/a>-listed <a title=\"Kagiso Media\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4866-Kagiso-Media\">Kagiso Media<\/a> says its <a title=\"MSN\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4867-Msn\">MSN<\/a> division had to recalibrate itself after the loss of the online gambling advertising spend, but is now well positioned to grow in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Kagiso says that its share of gambling advertising spend was estimated at R12 million.<\/p>\n<p>Kagiso\u2019s MSN business was established in a partnership with Microsoft (MSN) in 2010 to manage and localise the www.howzit.msn.com portal in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Under the terms of the agreement, Kagiso Media is also the sole sales partner for all Microsoft&#8217;s Windows Live properties &#8211; including <a title=\"Hotmail\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4868-Hotmail\">Hotmail<\/a> and <a title=\"Windows Live Messenger\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4870-Windows-Live-Messenger\">Windows Live Messenger<\/a> &#8211; in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Kagiso Media reported on Friday (14 September) that total revenue increased by 21.3% to R956.9 million for the year ended June 2012, \u201cthis growth being driven primarily by the broadcasting, content, information and other segments&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The group reported an 11.45% fall in diluted headline earnings per share for the year ended June 2012\u201a to 135.3 cents from the 152.8 cents previously.<\/p>\n<p>Operating profit rose marginally to R258.6 million, from R252 million in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Kagiso Media declared a final cash dividend of 30 cents per share\u201a from the 35 cents in 2011, and also declared a special dividend of 20 cents\u201a taking the final dividend to 50 cents.<\/p>\n<p>Kagiso Media\u2019s radio assets include East Coast Radio and Jacaranda FM (80% holding). It has also maintained strategic investment stakes in OFM (24.9%), Heart 104.9 (20.0%), Gagasi 99.5 (20.0%) and has an economic interest in Kaya FM (47.4%).<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Murphy Morobe\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4871-Murphy-Morobe\">Murphy Morobe<\/a>\u201a Kagiso Media CEO\u201a said: \u201cOur new media businesses are well positioned for good growth\u201a while the full-year effects of the Juta acquisition will bolster the performance in our \u2018information and other\u2019 pillar.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During the current financial year, Kagiso disinvested its 50% share in business software and solutions provider, <a title=\"LexisNexis\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4872-LexisNexis\">LexisNexis<\/a> and acquired a\u00a0100% stake in legal services entity the <a title=\"Juta Group\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4873-Juta-Group\">Juta Group<\/a> for R300 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe therefore plan to unlock continued organic growth in our home market.
