{"id":223340,"date":"2018-02-06T07:42:28","date_gmt":"2018-02-06T05:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=223340"},"modified":"2018-02-06T07:47:06","modified_gmt":"2018-02-06T05:47:06","slug":"anc-to-launch-own-motion-of-no-confidence-against-zuma-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/223340\/anc-to-launch-own-motion-of-no-confidence-against-zuma-report\/","title":{"rendered":"ANC to launch own motion of no confidence against Zuma: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a meeting on Monday evening (5 February), the ANC\u2019s national working committee has decided to\u00a0convene a special national executive committee (NEC) meeting on Wednesday to decide the fate of president Jacob Zuma.<\/p>\n<p>The decision follows\u00a0Zuma&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/223030\/zuma-refuses-to-resign-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a><\/strong> refusal to voluntarily resign from his post, stating that he is determined to see out the remainder of his term to 2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesslive.co.za\/bd\/national\/2018-02-06-jacob-zuma-likely-to-face-anc-no-confidence-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BusinessDay<\/a><\/strong>, the ANC&#8217;s\u00a0parliamentary caucus will now aim to remove the president through a\u00a0motion of no confidence brought by the ANC itself.<\/p>\n<p>This was supported by some senior ANC leaders going into the meeting after Zuma left the party with little option.<\/p>\n<p>Parliament had previously confirmed that it would hear a motion of no confidence brought by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on 22 February, however\u00a0ANC insiders said the party\u2019s caucus would not support an opposition-led process and would rather file their own motion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the beginning of the end for Zuma,\u201d said Theo Venter, a political analyst at North-West University\u2019s business school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has used up all his options.
