{"id":22901,"date":"2012-09-25T12:20:43","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T10:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=22901"},"modified":"2012-09-25T12:25:59","modified_gmt":"2012-09-25T10:25:59","slug":"lenovo-appoints-new-africa-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/hardware\/22901\/lenovo-appoints-new-africa-head\/","title":{"rendered":"Lenovo appoints new Africa head"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lenovo, the information technology and electronics company,\u00a0has announced the appointment of Graham Kenneth Braum as country manager of Lenovo Africa, with a view to further strengthen the company\u2019s presence in this growing market.<\/p>\n<p>Braum replaces\u00a0<a title=\"David Drummond\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/3178-David-Drummond\">David Drummond<\/a>, who has resigned from the company, having taken over the role at the start of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Based out of the company\u2019s office in Johannesburg, Braum had previously worked in similar positions in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking at the success Lenovo has been making over the past few years, coupled with the diverse range of products, modern corporate culture, and a commitment to tailor efforts to each local market will make Lenovo an invaluable technology provider in Africa,\u201d Braum said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the tech savvy, computer literate consumer on the rise and the market\u2019s undeniable need for more innovative and reliable technology for work and home this is an exciting time for Africa,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to International Data Corporation&#8217;s (IDC) <em>Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker<\/em>, Lenovo upped its market share in Africa, rising by 1.5 points.<\/p>\n<p>Corporate VP for Middle East &amp; Africa Lenovo, Jack Lee, said Africa is an important market to Lenovo\u2019s overall emerging market strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did have to play catch up; however, in the last quarter, we witnessed significant market growth and are committed to grow our presence and expand our consumer and enterprise outreach. We look forward to Braum\u2019s new task and have confidence his experience will prove invaluable to Lenovo,\u201d Lee said.<\/p>\n<p>Lenovo jumped to the world\u2019s number two PC maker in 2011, and is currently number one in China.<\/p>\n<p>In quarter three for 2012, Lenovo achieved a 15% market share, closing the gap between the leader to only 0.7pts.
