Teraco Data Environments (Teraco<\/a>), a provider of vendor neutral collocation data centres, is showing strong growth which is partly fuelled by its NapAfrica<\/a> and ISPA<\/a> peering points.<\/p>\n

Teraco\u2019s 3,800 square meter data centre in Johannesburg is already 50% full, while its 600 square meter facility in Cape Town is 85% full.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s recently-launched Durban data centre is 20% full, but according to Teraco MD, Lex van Wyk<\/a>, the company expect fast growth with the introduction of the ISPA Durban Internet Exchange (DINX) at the facility.<\/p>\n

Van Wyk said further that Teraco’s NAPAfrica peering points in in Cape Town and Johannesburg have already attracted 40 members, and traffic has surpassed the 1Gbps mark in less than 5 months.<\/p>\n

\u201cNAPAfrica has changed the peering landscape by following a free and open multi lateral peering policy, and as such is currently Africa\u2019s fastest growing global peering exchange,\u201d said van Wyk.<\/p>\n

Making South Africa a central hub<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDue to a lack of reliable power and infrastructure in many parts of Africa, an opportunity exists to establish South Africa, with its diverse international connectivity and choice of local and international carriers, as a central hub from which ISPs and cloud services providers are able to support the rest of Africa\u2019s needs for technological advancement and growth,\u201d van Wyk said.<\/p>\n

He said further that NAPAfrica is focused on becoming the central hub for Africa focused, not only on local ISP\u2019s, but on large international content providers and carriers.<\/p>\n
