{"id":233201,"date":"2018-03-22T11:02:30","date_gmt":"2018-03-22T09:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=233201"},"modified":"2018-03-22T11:04:43","modified_gmt":"2018-03-22T09:04:43","slug":"naspers-to-reduce-its-stake-in-tencent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/233201\/naspers-to-reduce-its-stake-in-tencent\/","title":{"rendered":"Naspers to reduce its stake in Tencent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JSE-listed Naspers said on Thursday that it intends\u00a0to sell up to 190 million Tencent shares, equal to 2% of the total issued share capital, reducing its stake in the Shenzhen-based company from 33.2% to 31.2%.<\/p>\n<p>Shares in Naspers declined 5.58% or R192.84 in mid-morning trade on the JSE, to R3,266.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The funds will be used to reinforce Naspers\u2019 balance sheet and will be invested over time to accelerate the growth of our classifieds, online food delivery and fintech businesses globally and to pursue other exciting growth opportunities when they arise,&#8221; Naspers said.<\/p>\n<p>Naspers said it has not previously sold any Tencent shares since it invested in 2001. &#8220;The company considers Tencent to be one of the very best growth enterprises in any industry in the world, managed by an exceptionally able team.
