{"id":242087,"date":"2018-05-03T10:13:12","date_gmt":"2018-05-03T08:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=242087"},"modified":"2018-05-03T10:22:02","modified_gmt":"2018-05-03T08:22:02","slug":"johannesburg-to-spend-r15-million-on-traffic-calming-measures-here-are-the-affected-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/242087\/johannesburg-to-spend-r15-million-on-traffic-calming-measures-here-are-the-affected-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"Johannesburg to spend R15 million on &#8216;traffic calming measures&#8217; &#8211; here are the affected roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has announced a R15 million overhaul of sidewalks and installation of traffic calming measures across five wards in the city.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A list of streets requiring traffic calming measures, maintenance, reinstatements and construction of new sidewalks have been identified,&#8221; the JRA said in a statement on Thursday (3 May).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Region B Sidewalk and Traffic Calming project aligns to Universal Access Requirements to ensure improved safety for non-motorised roads users and persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The project aims to make a significant social impact with added benefits to the greater community and road users.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The JRA added that it expects the introduction of traffic calming measures to reduce road user accidents, meaning drivers will become more conscious of <strong>installed speed humps<\/strong> and will drive at reduce speeds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Interventions to maintain, rehabilitate and construct sidewalks will ensure the accidents and risk posed to pedestrian and non-motorised roads users are reduced.
