{"id":24415,"date":"2012-10-21T12:16:24","date_gmt":"2012-10-21T10:16:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=24415"},"modified":"2012-10-21T12:20:31","modified_gmt":"2012-10-21T10:20:31","slug":"internet-access-will-become-free-vox-telecom-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/24415\/internet-access-will-become-free-vox-telecom-ceo\/","title":{"rendered":"Internet access will become free: Vox Telecom CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Vox Telecom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1952-Vox-Telecom\">Vox Telecom<\/a> CEO <a title=\"Douglas Reed\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1954-Douglas-Reed\">Douglas Reed<\/a> says that South African consumers can look forward to a positive trend of declining broadband prices and improved services for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>Reed said that he does not expect any major factors forcing a quantum change on either the technology or regulatory front, but the trend of lower broadband prices and better services will continue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEventually Internet access to the consumer will tend to be free or close to free like other communication mediums like TV and radio,\u201d said Reed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdvertisers would pay extensively for targeted, niche and relevant marketing to profiled individuals, which would subsidise access for those that can&#8217;t afford to pay for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the interventions which many South Africans think will drive down fixed broadband prices is Local Loop Unbundling (LLU), but Reed said that it may come too late.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen LLU is a reality, it will be far too late to impact on the broadband services available in SA.
