perks offered by South African companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deloitte&#8217;s latest\u00a0 Human Capital Trends report for 2018 details what companies around the world are doing to increase their employee&#8217;s well-being.<\/p>\n<p>Over 11,000 executives from 124 countries participated in the global survey, including 354 South African business and HR leaders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the line between work and life blurs further, employees are demanding that organisations expand their benefits offerings to include a wide range of programmes for physical, mental, financial, and spiritual health,&#8221; Deloitte said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In response, employers are investing in well-being programmes as both a societal responsibility and a talent strategy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Deloitte found that over 50% of global survey respondents view a variety of such programmes as \u201cvaluable\u201d or \u201chighly valuable\u201d to employees, but big gaps remain between what employees value and what companies are delivering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Africa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking at South Africa,\u00a0Deloitte found\u00a0that the majority of respondents state that the employee wellness\/work-life programmes currently in place in their organisation include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>wellness counselling<\/li>\n<li>in-office wellness services (such as chair massages, health fairs and health screenings)<\/li>\n<li>employee assistance programmes<\/li>\n<li>mental health counselling<\/li>\n<li>flexible work schedules<\/li>\n<li>group wellness or fitness activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>68% percent of respondents felt that employee well-being programmes promote employee productivity or improve bottom line results and 59% feel that well-being programmes support employee retention.<\/p>\n<p><em>Click to enlarge.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Wellness.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-245219 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Wellness.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1034\" height=\"793\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Wellness.jpg 1034w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Wellness-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Wellness-768x589.jpg 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Wellness-1024x785.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1034px) 100vw, 1034px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Deloitte also found that 16% of respondents\u2019 organisations are not working on any well-being programme, while only 4% offer extensive well-being programmes and actively analyse the impact on productivity and efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The results indicate that most well-being programmes are isolated in nature and not ongoing,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In order to be beneficial and sustainable over the long term, a more holistic strategy and approach is required based on research of successful programmes locally worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well designed and executed well-being programmes have the potential of significant improvements in employee engagement and productivity,&#8221;
