{"id":251369,"date":"2018-06-13T11:49:33","date_gmt":"2018-06-13T09:49:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=251369"},"modified":"2018-06-13T11:49:33","modified_gmt":"2018-06-13T09:49:33","slug":"mtn-to-launch-in-namibia-in-august-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/251369\/mtn-to-launch-in-namibia-in-august-report\/","title":{"rendered":"MTN to launch in Namibia in August: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African mobile group MTN says that it is planning to launch services in Namibia this August, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/africaTech\/idAFL8N1TE5JR\">Reuters<\/a><\/strong> reports.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the media group, MTN Namibia executive\u00a0Hester Marais said that the operator will use Namibia&#8217;s state-owned network for its services, with further plans to also enter the local money market.<\/p>\n<p>MTN has had operations in Namibia for over 20 years, but only as an internet service provider to businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Currently Nambia only has two mobile operators, both state-owned &#8211; namely, TN Mobile and MTC. The country has a population of about 2.5 million people.<\/p>\n<p>The move will extend MTN&#8217;s reach in Africa, where it already has operations in major markets like Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana.
