The government gazette relating to e-tolling in Gauteng says that tariffs for motorists with e-tags will be set at 30 cents per kilometre, according to a report in the Star newspaper on Friday.<\/p>\n
Standard rates for those without e-tags are more than double this amount.<\/p>\n
Quoting the gazette, The Star said users without e-tags who pay their toll fees within 30 days will be given a 60 percent discount.<\/p>\n
A monthly cap on heavy vehicles has also been included.<\/p>\n
Cars and motorbikes are capped at a maximum of R550 a month, class B (small heavy vehicles) at R1750 and class C (large heavy vehicles) at R3500.<\/p>\n
It is unclear when e-tolling will begin.<\/p>\n
Government was expected to make an announcement on e-tolling later on Friday.<\/p>\n
This week, Cabinet approved the gazetting of terms and conditions, including updated tariffs.<\/p>\n
There would be a 30-day period for public comment. The government would then incorporate the comments and publish its final position after 14 days.<\/p>\n
The 30-day period expires one day before the start of the judicial review of e-tolling on November 26.<\/p>\n
