{"id":256389,"date":"2018-07-04T10:19:16","date_gmt":"2018-07-04T08:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=256389"},"modified":"2018-07-04T10:19:16","modified_gmt":"2018-07-04T08:19:16","slug":"two-senior-officials-were-paid-r2-6-million-for-not-going-to-work-for-almost-a-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/256389\/two-senior-officials-were-paid-r2-6-million-for-not-going-to-work-for-almost-a-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Two senior officials were paid R2.6 million for not going to work for almost a year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two senior management service officials in the Department of Energy continued to receive a salary despite being suspended for almost an entire year, at a cost of R2.6 million.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fin24.com\/Economy\/two-officials-on-paid-suspension-cost-department-over-r2m-jeff-radebe-says-20180703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fin24<\/a> reported that Energy minister Jeff Radebe told Parliament that the matter related to declaring business interests with the state &#8211; something banned by the Public Administration Management Act in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Radebe was replying to a written question from Freedom Front Plus MP Anton Alberts. He said all the senior management service members declared their financial interests for the year 2017\/ 2018, barring three.<\/p>\n<p>Fin24 reported that the minister pointed to an &#8216;oversight from the officials&#8217; who missed the concession deadline of 31 May 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Alberts asked how many senior management service members were on paid suspension, to which Radebe replied that two were suspended with full pay.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are currently two officials that are suspended on full salary. Both the employees are on post level 15.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One employee was suspended on 19 May 2017, which is a total of 396 days.
