The Democratic Alliance<\/a> has\u00a0put forward a motion in the House of Parliament for the\u00a0privatisation of Telkom<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The motion was put forward by\u00a0Marian Shinn<\/a> MP,\u00a0DA shadow minister of communications on Tuesday (6 November).<\/p>\n

“I hereby move without notice on behalf of the Democratic Alliance that this house debates the following motion:<\/p>\n

“The privatisation of Telkom in the interests of rapidly installing high-speed communications infrastructure to benefit the service delivery, economic growth and job creation,” Shinn said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Government holds a 39.8% shareholding in\u00a0Telkom, with state investment arm Public Investment Corporation (PIC<\/a>),\u00a0owning another 10.9%.<\/p>\n

It is still unclear what government’s plans are for Telkom, with Cabinet expected to make a decision over its future after the Department of Communications<\/a> submitted its\u00a0proposed options for the group in September.<\/p>\n
