Zoopy<\/a>‘s targetted relaunch date has come and gone with no change to its offline status – and Vodacom<\/a> has no new information to offer on the plans for the site.<\/p>\n

In September 2012, Vodacom-owned mobile video platform, Zoopy, posted a message on its front-page declaring that the site would be “off air” for two months, with a relaunch promised on 1 November 2012:<\/p>\n

“Thanks for all the Love, we\u2019re off air from 1st of September 2012; relaunching on the 1st of November 2012<\/strong>. We\u2019ll be back with more content, more funk, and even more Style \u2013 everything from Music to exclusive Behind the Scenes Content from your (sic) favorite local Celebrities. We know you\u2019ll miss us, but it\u2019ll be worth the wait!” (emphasis added)<\/p>\n

A week after the targetted relaunch date had passed, the message had been removed from the site, and to date, there has been no change in content or further activity on the site.<\/p>\n

When asked about Zoopy’s status and plans, company owner, Vodacom, declined to comment.<\/p>\n

Going off air<\/h3>\n

Zoopy was founded in March 2007 by Jason<\/a> and Pat Elk<\/a>, and at the time, competed against platforms like YouTube<\/a> by allowing users to upload and share videos, photos, podcasts and blogs.<\/p>\n

The two former owners have since parted ways with company, in July.<\/p>\n

Vodacom first invested in Zoopy in June 2008, purchasing a 40% share stake in the group. The mobile operator upped its stake to 75% in February 2009, and later acquired the remaining 25% in Zoopy in August 2010.<\/p>\n

The company had changed direction over the last few years, to a mobile platform producing original content using a team of content producers and news presenters.<\/p>\n

Vodacom had been involved in the reorganisation process of Zoopy ahead of its re-launch, though the platform’s current status is unknown.<\/p>\n
