{"id":26025,"date":"2012-11-23T23:23:42","date_gmt":"2012-11-23T21:23:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=26025"},"modified":"2012-11-23T23:24:56","modified_gmt":"2012-11-23T21:24:56","slug":"grenade-a-really-awesome-technology-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/26025\/grenade-a-really-awesome-technology-company\/","title":{"rendered":"Grenade: &#8220;A really awesome technology company&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new technology startup, <a title=\"Grenade\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5976-Grenade-Technologies\">Grenade<\/a> was founded in March 2012 with a vision to develop web and mobile products for publishers and content-rich businesses in South Africa and other emerging markets.<\/p>\n<p>Grenade has three shareholders &#8211; Prefix (Everlytic) is the main investors and shareholder, with <a title=\"Colin Daniels\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5977-Colin-Daniels\">Colin Daniels<\/a> (CEO) and <a title=\"Robin Pietersen\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5978-Robin-Pietersen\">Robin Pietersen<\/a> (CTO) constituting the other two shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>The startup already has many high profile clients, including Creamer Media (Engineering News, Mining Weekly); Ndalo Media (Destiny Connect); Cars.co.za; Avusa \/ BDFM (BDlive, Financial Mail); and eAdvance Group (Spark Schools).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have also just signed a contract with our first client outside South Africa, a Nigerian Women&#8217;s magazine. We will be designing their web and mobile sites and they will run on our new publishing platform,\u201d said Daniels.<\/p>\n<p>Grenade is already generating strong revenue after only a few months of operations. According to Daniels Grenade is on track to turnover around R3.5m in their first financial year.<\/p>\n<p>Daniels said that the secret to their success lies in their talented team and the intellectual property that exists in their products and services.<\/p>\n<p>Grenade certainly needs a strong team and great products to compete effectively in a field which is dominated by the popular and free WordPress platform. WordPress powers many of the world\u2019s largest news websites, and with affordable support and free plugins, it is a tough competitor.<\/p>\n<p>Grenade is, however, hedging its bets.
