highest paid world leaders right now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UK-based credit brokers, <a href=\"https:\/\/money-pod.co.uk\/guides\/world-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moneypod<\/a>, has published new data showing the highest paid world leaders in 2018 &#8211; and how their salaries compare to their country&#8217;s national average wage.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that the prime minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, makes over three times the amount of the second highest earning world leader in Hong Kong\u2019s Carrie Lam &#8211; pocketing $1.7 million (R22 million) per year.<\/p>\n<p>UK prime minister Theresa May earns a reported $186,000, compared to Donald Trump\u2019s $400,000 &#8211; although the latter only accepts $1 of his salary.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Norway\u2019s prime minister Erna Solberg ($187,000), earns only $100,000 more than the average Norwegian worker due to country\u2019s high average national income.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Africa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Africa\u2019s president Cyril Ramaphosa\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/227233\/this-is-how-much-ramaphosa-could-earn-as-president-in-2018-and-beyond\/\"> earns a salary of R3.6 million in 2018<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 easily making him one of the best paid leaders in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Converted to dollars (at current rates) Ramaphosa\u2019s salary translates to just over <strong>$270,000<\/strong> &#8211; putting him firmly among the top 10 highest paid leaders in the world depending on rand\/dollar <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wealth\/232021\/ramaphosas-presidential-salary-vs-other-world-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fluctuations<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0Ramaphosa has previously <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iol.co.za\/business-report\/economy\/cyril-ramaphosa-will-donate-half-his-salary-to-charity-15123998\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicated<\/a> <\/strong>that he will give half of his salary to charity,\u00a0South Africa&#8217;s presidential salary also stands out due to its disparity with the national average wage.<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/254827\/south-africas-average-salary-versus-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stats SA\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>data, average monthly earnings paid to employees in the formal non-agricultural sector decreased from R20,060 in November 2017 to\u00a0R19,858\u00a0in February 2018 \u2013 though this was up 5% year on year from R18,913 in February 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Expressed as an annual salary, this equates to <strong>R238,300<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A separate release from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/254681\/heres-the-average-take-home-pay-in-south-africa-right-now\/\">BankservAfrica<\/a><\/strong> showed that the average take-home salary is at \/>\n<p><strong>Ramaphosa&#8217;s wealth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Due to his reported holdings in many private businesses, Moneypod found that Russia\u2019s Vladimir Putin comes out on top when it comes to the world\u2019s wealthiest leaders with an estimated fortune of $40 billion.<\/p>\n<p>US president Donald Trump has a net worth of $3.1 billion, and despite North Korea\u2019s national average salary coming in a $1,100 per annum, Leader Kim Jong-Un is said to have a private wealth of over $5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaphosa has an estimated <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wealth\/256605\/here-are-23-of-the-richest-people-in-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">net worth<\/a><\/strong> of R6.4 billion ($480
