{"id":261771,"date":"2018-07-30T09:43:14","date_gmt":"2018-07-30T07:43:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=261771"},"modified":"2018-07-30T09:43:14","modified_gmt":"2018-07-30T07:43:14","slug":"eoh-enters-r1-billion-black-ownership-deal-with-lebashe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/it-services\/261771\/eoh-enters-r1-billion-black-ownership-deal-with-lebashe\/","title":{"rendered":"EOH enters R1 billion black-ownership deal with Lebashe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>EOH Holdings, a South African information, communications and technology firm, is raising its black-owned shareholding through a R1 billion ($76 million) empowerment deal with Lebashe Financial Services.<\/p>\n<p>Lebashe will provide EOH with an equity injection as it buys shares at a 10 percent discount, Johannesburg-based EOH said in a statement Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The transaction will make EOH \u201cone of the largest, majority black-owned technology companies in Africa,\u201d Zunaid Mayet, who has relinquished his role as chief executive officer of EOH to head NEXTEC, the company\u2019s new business unit, said by phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deal will strengthen our balance sheet and put us in a well-placed position to pursue growth opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The transaction comes as Stephen Van Coller, a senior executive at pan-African telecommunications company MTN Group Ltd. and the former head of Absa Group Ltd.\u2019s investment-banking division, will take over the helm at EOH.<\/p>\n<p>The technology company is taking steps to improve its governance and turn around its performance after the stock fell to the lowest since November 2011. This includes splitting into two separate business units that will be overseen by a holding company from August.<\/p>\n<p>The stock declined 0.6% to R41.02 at 9:15 a.m. in Johannesburg, paring the gain this month to 27%.<\/p>\n<p>Lebashe holds a stake in Capitec Bank Holdings Ltd, South Africa\u2019s fastest-growing lender.
