{"id":26287,"date":"2012-11-12T13:06:55","date_gmt":"2012-11-12T11:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=26287"},"modified":"2012-11-12T13:06:55","modified_gmt":"2012-11-12T11:06:55","slug":"adcorp-october-employment-index-up-1-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/26287\/adcorp-october-employment-index-up-1-0\/","title":{"rendered":"Adcorp October employment index up 1.0%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Employment increased by 1.0% on an annualised basis in October\u201a following a 1.61% rise in September\u201a the latest Adcorp employment index revealed on Monday (12 November).<\/p>\n<p>The index is regarded as the most representative monthly barometer of employment trends in SA\u201a although its figures do not usually tally with those from SA\u2019s official statistics agency\u201a Statistics SA.<\/p>\n<p>Adcorp said that during September and October\u201a the economy added 41\u201a971 jobs\u201a partly reversing the decline of 82\u201a431 jobs observed in the four-month period of May\u201a June\u201a July and August.<\/p>\n<p>The index showed that jobs growth was observed in all sectors\u201a with growth in informal sector jobs continuing to outperform\u201a with a rate of 2.3% or 12\u201a250 jobs during the month.<\/p>\n<p>Strong growth was observed in temporary and agency work\u201a with 1.2% and 1.4% growth rates respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Adcorp said the growth in temporary and agency work was likely to continue as the economy ramped up for the year-end retail season.<\/p>\n<p>The primary and secondary sectors of mining and manufacturing continued to shed jobs\u201a losing 6\u201a000 jobs between them during the month.<\/p>\n<p>Adcorp noted the ongoing strikes in the mining sector as a key factor in the decline.<\/p>\n<p>The tertiary sectors\u201a mostly services\u201a gained 14\u201a000 jobs during the month.
