Opposition To Urban Tolling Alliance (OUTA) has urged the public to take part in the e-toll tariff discussions taking place this week.<\/p>\n
The Department of Transport and South African National Roads Agency Limited\u00a0<\/em>(Sanral) will be holding three public engagement sessions this week.<\/p>\n At these discussions, e-toll exemptions and tariff regulations will be tabled and members of the public will also be able to hand in written submissions and raise questions or concerns.<\/p>\n “OUTA urges the public to attend these public information sessions on the e-toll regulations,” the organisation said.<\/p>\n “These opportunities for [social] engagement should not be overlooked or ignored, and we encourage an expression of views to the authorities on the excessive rates and processes related to e-tolls.”<\/p>\n In April, the High Court granted OUTA an interdict, ruling that a full review of the e-tolling system needed to be carried out before electronic tolling could be put into effect.<\/p>\n In September, the Constitutional Court overturned an interim order which had put a hold on the Gauteng e-tolling project.<\/p>\n In October, transport minister Ben Martins marked the beginning of the 30-day public consultation process leading up to the full review, after Cabinet agreed on revised tariffs for the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project.<\/p>\n Sanral said the e-toll tariff for light vehicles with e-tags had been reduced to 30c\/km. This was down from the 40c\/km decided on last year.<\/p>\n The base tariff for light vehicles would remain at 58c\/km.<\/p>\n The e-tag tariff for motorcycles was dropped from 24c\/km to 18c\/km; for medium heavy vehicles (Class B) from R1\/km to 75c\/km; and heavy vehicles (Class C) from R2\/km to R1.50\/km.<\/p>\n To take part in the consultations, members of the public can go to the venues listed below.<\/p>\n E-toll rate revealed<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n E-toll details must be made public: OUTA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n OUTA: e-toll tariffs and cap likely to be reduced<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\nNew tariffs<\/h3>\n
