{"id":26926,"date":"2012-11-20T11:36:49","date_gmt":"2012-11-20T09:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=26926"},"modified":"2012-11-20T14:42:43","modified_gmt":"2012-11-20T12:42:43","slug":"absa-intros-lcd-nfc-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/26926\/absa-intros-lcd-nfc-card\/","title":{"rendered":"Absa intros LCD, NFC card"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Absa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1877-Absa-Bank\">Absa<\/a> has launched a techno-loaded card called Potentiate,\u00a0claiming it to be the first of its kind in South Africa, giving customers a Tap and Go, LCD display MasterCard and featuring a host of other digital services.<\/p>\n<p>The Potentiate account targets up-and-coming, tech savvy, business and professional people &#8211; and is available to individuals aged 18 years and older; holding a qualification and earning a minimum gross monthly income of R3,000.<\/p>\n<p>The card packaged with the account is a MasterCard Titanium card, which has a button and digital LCD display that provides a one-time PIN for added security when shopping online at participating 3D Secure merchants.<\/p>\n<p>The card includes MasterCard\u2019s PayPass Tap and Go technology, which allows customers to &#8220;tap&#8221; their cards to pay for low value purchases in selected retailers.<\/p>\n<p>The card allows clients to transact on any of their underlying credit, cheque and savings accounts, Absa said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26940\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Absa-Potentiate.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26940\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26940\" title=\"Absa Potentiate\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Absa-Potentiate.jpg\" alt=\"Absa Potentiate card\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Absa-Potentiate.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Absa-Potentiate-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26940\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Absa Potentiate card<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Potentiate service also offers lifestyle and loyalty benefits to customers, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exclusive access to fashion shows, concerts, sports events;<\/li>\n<li>Previews of the latest gadgets, electronic devices;<\/li>\n<li>Discounted rates at various hotels<\/li>\n<li>Absa Online accessed through a new Apple iPad with a data bundle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to Absa, Potentiate customers can include an Apple iPad in the service deal from R232 per month &#8211; or at a 15% discount off the retail price of the New Apple iPads &#8211; until Freedom day (27th April 2013). The package comes with a free Vodacom data bundle (1GB for 2 months).<\/p>\n<p>Absa said it will deliver the device free of charge to your door-step.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first of Absa\u2019s device or tablet offerings, which Absa said will later be extended to all customers.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Arrie Rautenbach\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4707-Arrie-Rautenbach\">Arrie Rautenbach<\/a>, Absa head of retail markets, said the Potentiate account will give clients all their basic banking in one monthly fee.
