here&#8217;s who will have to register and what they want to know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, has published\u00a0new <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.za\/sites\/default\/files\/41887_gen543.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proposals<\/a> <\/strong>focusing on a &#8216; national tourism\u00a0information and monitoring system&#8217; for public comment.<\/p>\n<p>According to the regulations, the purpose of the new system is to regulate the collection, recording, management, analysis and dissemination of information and data on tourism &#8211; with aims of monitoring developments and trends in the tourism sector.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the size and nature of South Africa&#8217;s tourism industry, the regulations appear quite far-reaching and will apply to a number of businesses, individuals, and groups across South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Businesses, individuals and categories affected\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Categories of data and information to be captured on the system include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All tourism related information, such as Tourism Satellite Account classifications and categories;<\/li>\n<li>Accommodation;<\/li>\n<li>Meetings, exhibitions, conferences and special events;<\/li>\n<li>Attractions and activities;<\/li>\n<li>Tour operators and tourist guide services;<\/li>\n<li>Restaurants and similar services;<\/li>\n<li>Tourism information services;<\/li>\n<li>Hiring and leasing;<\/li>\n<li>Passenger transport and related services;<\/li>\n<li>Travel agencies and other reservation services;<\/li>\n<li>Cultural services;<\/li>\n<li>Sports and recreational services; and<\/li>\n<li>Tourism-related infrastructure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The data\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The regulations set\u00a0out that the information on the system includes &#8211; but is not limited to &#8211; the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Legal name of business;<\/li>\n<li>Trading name;<\/li>\n<li>CIPC registration number;<\/li>\n<li>Years of operation;<\/li>\n<li>Physical and postal address;<\/li>\n<li>Type of business or company;<\/li>\n<li>Business structure;<\/li>\n<li>Franchise information;<\/li>\n<li>Ownership type;<\/li>\n<li>Classification and category of business;<\/li>\n<li>Classification of business;<\/li>\n<li>Broad -Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) information;<\/li>\n<li>Tourism grading and levy information;<\/li>\n<li>Universal accessibility;<\/li>\n<li>Member association;<\/li>\n<li>Number and type of rooms;<\/li>\n<li>Number of beds;<\/li>\n<li>Type of amenities providers;<\/li>\n<li>Number of conference rooms and total seating capacity;<\/li>\n<li>Total parking capacity;<\/li>\n<li>Dietary restrictions, liquor license information and smoking facilities;<\/li>\n<li>Type of travel services, number of vehicles and carrying capacity;<\/li>\n<li>Type of cultural and recreational services offered;<\/li>\n<li>Amenities (wellness spa, swimming pool and others); and<\/li>\n<li>Contact information;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The regulations state that data and information may be provided in hard copies or electronically, must be provided at least once a year, and must be provided within 30 days where there are changes to the information or upon request.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed system will also allow the Department of Tourism to verify information as a form of audit.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the system will make it an offence to deliberately provide incorrect or misleading\u00a0information &#8211;
