Egypt has eight on the list, while fellow North African country Morocco has five.<\/p>\n<p>The catchphrase, &#8220;the rich get richer&#8221; rings true as the 40 on the list boast a combined net worth of $72.9 billion, up 12% over 2011.<\/p>\n<p>According to Forbes, for 32 people on the list, their fortune is self-made, while the average age stands at 63.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria\u2019s cement king, <a title=\"Aliko Dangote\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2308-Aliko-Dangote\">Aliko Dangote<\/a> again sits top of the pile with a net worth of $12 billion, up from $10.1 billion in November 2011. Most of his net worth lies in publicly traded Dangote Cement.<\/p>\n<p>South African, <a title=\"Nicky Oppenheimer\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2318-Nicky-Oppenheimer\">Nicky Oppenheimer<\/a> is second richest with a $6.4 billion fortune, though this is with $100 million less than in 2011, after he sold his family\u2019s 40% stake in diamond producer <a title=\"DeBeers\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4772-De-Beers\">DeBeers<\/a> to mining company <a title=\"Anglo American\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4773-Anglo-American\">Anglo American<\/a> for $5.1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes&#8217; list tracks African citizens who reside on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>Other South Africans in the top 10 include <a title=\"Johann Rupert\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2319-Johann-Rupert\">Johann Rupert<\/a> &amp; family (3), with a net worth of $5.7 billion. The family owns JSE listed luxury goods company, <a title=\"Richemont\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4774-Richemont\">Richemont<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Christoffel (Christo) Wiese\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2314-Christo-Wiese\">Christoffel (Christo) Wiese<\/a>, at sixth on the list with a net worth of R3.7 billion, is the chairman and the largest single shareholder of <a title=\"Shoprite\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4775-Shoprite\">Shoprite<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Patrice Motsepe\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2313-Patrice-Motsepe\">Patrice Motsepe<\/a>, with $2.65 billion, is ranked eighth. He owns publicly traded mining conglomerate, <a title=\"African Rainbow Minerals\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4776-African-Rainbow-Minerals\">African Rainbow Minerals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Debutant on the list, Desmond Sacco is listed at 15th with a fortune of $1.4 billion thanks to his shares in mining group Assore.<\/p>\n<p>Just behind Sacco, is\u00a0<a title=\"Stephen Saad\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6200-Stephen-Saad\">Stephen Saad<\/a> with $975 million, having founded JSE-listed\u00a0Aspen Pharmacare.<\/p>\n<p>Entrepreneur <a title=\"Cyril Ramaphosa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2311-Cyril-Ramaphosa\">Cyril Ramaphosa<\/a> is the next South African on the list, ranked 21st with a net worth of $675 million.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Lauritz (Laurie) Dippenaar\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6201-Lauritz-Dippenaar\">Lauritz (Laurie) Dippenaar<\/a> is ranked 23rd with a fortune of $625 million, having co-founded Rand Consolidated Investing, which later became <a title=\"Rand Merchant Bank\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4668-Rand-Merchant-Bank-%28RMB%29\">Rand Merchant Bank<\/a>, and then <a title=\"FirstRand\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4813-First-Rand\">FirstRand<\/a> group. Dippenaar serves as\u00a0non-executive chairman of First Rand.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Pick N Pay\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4849-Pick-n-Pay\">Pick N Pay<\/a> founder, <a title=\"Raymond Ackerman\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2312-Raymond-Ackerman\">Raymond Ackerman<\/a> sits at 27th, having amassed a total of $550 million.<\/p>\n<p>Placed at 35th on the list, <a title=\"Gerrit Thomas Ferreira\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6202-Gerrit-Thomas-Ferreira\">Gerrit Thomas Ferreira<\/a> is another co-founder of Rand Consolidated Investments. Having accumulated a wealth of $480 million, Ferreira now serves as non-executive chairman of RMB Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Another debutant, Koos Bekker is ranked 36th with a sum of $450 million. Bekker is CEO of media giant <a title=\"Naspers\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2295-Naspers\">Naspers<\/a> which has investments in China\u2019s instant messaging firm <a title=\"Tencent Holdings\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/3090-Tencent-Holdings\">Tencent Holdings<\/a> and Russia\u2019s Internet group Mail.ru. Strangely, Bekker does not earn a salary, bonus, or benefits. His net worth is held up in the value of his vested options in Naspers.<\/p>\n<p>Listed in position 38 on the list, <a title=\"Jannie Mouton\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6203-Jannie-Mouton\">Jannie Mouton<\/a> boasts a wealth accumulation of $415 million.
