{"id":271427,"date":"2018-09-14T10:48:30","date_gmt":"2018-09-14T08:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=271427"},"modified":"2018-09-14T10:48:30","modified_gmt":"2018-09-14T08:48:30","slug":"telkom-details-voluntary-separation-packages-in-an-email-to-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/271427\/telkom-details-voluntary-separation-packages-in-an-email-to-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Telkom details voluntary separation packages in an email to staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telkom has sent an email to staff detailing the particulars of its voluntary separation packages (VSP) and voluntary early retirement packages (VERP).<\/p>\n<p>In the email, seen by MyBroadband, the company stated packages will be available to\u00a0all employees of Telkom SA SOC Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>The details follow Telkom <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business-telecoms\/275443-telkom-offering-employees-voluntary-separation-and-early-retirement-packages.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>announcing<\/strong><\/a> on Thursday that it would offer the packages to employees from this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe estimate that Telkom has subsidised the South African mobile industry by about R70 billion since its inception. This subsidy has mainly been a result of regulatory decisions that impacted Telkom disproportionately,\u201d stated the email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring these regulatory cycles Telkom has sought to safeguard jobs from market and economic pressures. However, the cumulative effect of past regulations continues to impact our business operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Telkom stated it must therefore\u00a0offer voluntary packages to all Telkom \u2013 Corporate, Openserve, Consumer and Small Business \u2013 employees, as part of a review of its business operating model.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVSP and VERP packages will be available from Friday, 14 September 2018 at 12:00 until Friday, 21 September 2018 at 12:00,\u201d said the email.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Packages<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mail stated that the VSP option is available to all Telkom employees who are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Younger than 50 years if they are members of the Telkom Retirement Fund.<\/li>\n<li>Younger than 55 if they are members of the Telkom Pension Fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The VERP option is available to Telkom employees who are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50 years and older if they are members of the Telkom Retirement Fund.<\/li>\n<li>55 years and older if they are members of the Telkom Pension Fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cEmployees are under no obligation to apply for a VSP\/VERP.
