{"id":271613,"date":"2018-09-14T15:26:36","date_gmt":"2018-09-14T13:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=271613"},"modified":"2018-09-14T15:26:36","modified_gmt":"2018-09-14T13:26:36","slug":"these-are-the-most-in-demand-job-skills-in-south-africa-right-now-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/271613\/these-are-the-most-in-demand-job-skills-in-south-africa-right-now-5\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the most in-demand job skills in South Africa right now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jobs portal <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careerjunction.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CareerJunction<\/a> <\/strong>has released its latest index for July 2018, showing which jobs and skills are most in-demand across South Africa right now.<\/p>\n<p>According to the group, the August index slipped below the 100-mark at 96 index points, indicating increased competition for jobs among job seekers.<\/p>\n<p>While labour demand remained stable overall, the admin, office &amp; support sector, as well as the marketing and sales sectors, saw a notable decrease in job volumes year-on-year.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, job volumes in engineering and finance have grown between 2%-3% since January, while construction jobs grew by a noteworthy 17%.<\/p>\n<p>These are the three jobs that are currently trending, according to CareerJunction\u2019s data:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Architecture<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Average salary offerings for intermediate level positions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GP: R45,938 to R56,574 p.m. (CTC)<\/li>\n<li>WC: R41,000 to R48,571 p.m. (CTC)<\/li>\n<li>KZN: R38,750 to R48,333 p.m. (CTC)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Business Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Average salary offerings for intermediate level positions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GP: R24,944 to R33,625 p.m. (CTC)<\/li>\n<li>WC: R23,852 to R29,050 p.m. (CTC)<\/li>\n<li>KZN: R20,300 to R28,071 p.m. (CTC)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Financial Analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Average salary offerings for intermediate level positions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GP: R39,162 to R48,900 p.m. (CTC)<\/li>\n<li>WC: R32,667 to R44,708 p.m. (CTC)<\/li>\n<li>KZN: Not enough information available<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>In-demand job skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As has been the case for the past few months, South African employers are looking for three main sets of skills \u2013 software developers, middle\/department managers and financial\/project accountants.<\/p>\n<p>Software development remains a much-needed skill set on the South African job market. Over 24% of vacancies on CareerJunction are IT related, with most allocated to software developers.<\/p>\n<p>Middle\/department managers also remain highly sought-after, particularly finance managers, who take up their share of over 40% of associated jobs.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a growing demand for professionals in financial\/project accounting. Since January, demand for these professionals has strengthened by more than 25%. Despite the growing labour demand, the job market remains competitive, CareerJunction said.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Demand-vs-Supply.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-271617 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Demand-vs-Supply.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"836\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Demand-vs-Supply.jpg 1284w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Demand-vs-Supply-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Demand-vs-Supply-768x406.jpg 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Demand-vs-Supply-1024x541.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Demand-vs-Supply-1200x634.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 836px) 100vw, 836px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An overview of vacancy levels across various sectors (indicated by the above graph) provides a good indication of where the majority of employment takes place,&#8221; CareerJunction said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The IT, business &amp; management and finance sectors are undoubtedly the most sought-after sectors, followed by the sales, admin, office &amp; support and architecture &amp; engineering sectors, among others listed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When looking at active job seekers across various sectors, areas of high supply correlate closely to areas of high demand, however, supply outstrips demand in some areas, leading to a competitive environment for job seekers.
