The decision is much more about pursuing new challenges, greater knowledge, new skills, and wider life experiences,” said John Goddard, head of HSBC Expat.

The financial services firm questioned 22,000 expats around the world how they feel about their lives overseas.

Combining high scores across the survey’s key measures – economics, experience and family – Singapore ticks many of the boxes on the expat wish list.

Almost half of all expats in Singapore moved to progress their careers (45%).
