{"id":27830,"date":"2012-12-04T13:47:32","date_gmt":"2012-12-04T11:47:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=27830"},"modified":"2012-12-04T13:49:05","modified_gmt":"2012-12-04T11:49:05","slug":"mtn-ordered-to-stop-accruing-new-subscribers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/27830\/mtn-ordered-to-stop-accruing-new-subscribers\/","title":{"rendered":"MTN ordered to stop accruing new subscribers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana&#8217;s\u00a0National Communications Authority (NCA) \u00a0has ordered MTN&#8217;s operation in the country,\u00a0Scancom, to cease adding new\u00a0customers with immediate effect due to the poor quality of its network.<\/p>\n<p>The NCA said in a statement that it has had to engage Scancom (MTN Ghana), on several occasions, on issues of quality of service degradation (i.e. network reliability, network availability, call drop, call set-up, denial of service etc) being experienced by consumers of mobile services.<\/p>\n<p>It follows a recent spate of service disruptions on the MTN network, the authority said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In spite of these engagements, network performance on MTN continues to deteriorate.\u00a0Consequently, the NCA has directed Scancom Ltd to, with immediate effect, cease selling and\/or adding any new SIM cards\/subscribers to MTN network until further notice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a quarterly update for the period ended September 2012, published in October, MTN Group highlighted a 4.8% quarter on quarter rise for its operation in Ghana to 11.27 million subscribers, &#8220;a strong result in a highly competitive market,&#8221;
