Native Inventions, the devlopment arm of Native marketing, has teamed up with social networking platform, Mxit, to launch 10 experimental applications that aim to bring a taste of smartphone capability to feature phone handsets.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving a beautiful, feature rich iPhone app is great, but in South Africa it means your brand is speaking to a very small percentage of the total market,” said Levon Rivers, head of Native Inventions.<\/p>\n
“With Mxit we have the potential to engage with millions of users, most of whom are not accessible on other social networks such as Twitter and Facebook,\u201d Rivers said.<\/p>\n
The first batch of mobile products seeks to bring smartphone capabilities and experiences to feature phone users, Native said.<\/p>\n
Mxit was selected as the first technology partner.<\/p>\n
The applications are experimental platforms that range from functional to being a bit silly. The main driving force behind the initiative is gauge Mxit as a platform for these apps to serve the community in terms of entertainments or utility.<\/p>\n
An example of a utility app is the GetThere app, which is a Google Maps API that gives users text and image direction.<\/p>\n
On the more entertainment side, there’s an app called MakeAMeme, which is a meme generator with the community focusing on relevant topics.<\/p>\n
Other experimental apps include Talkbot – an AI “robot” that learns from user interaction; image manipulation apps; sports games; and posting apps.<\/p>\n
