Alan Knott Craig Snr – Cell C<\/h3>\n
Cell C appointed Alan Knott-Craig Snr as the new CEO on 19 January 2012. Knott Craig joined company and the Cell C board of directors on 1 April 2012.<\/p>\n
Since his appointment, Knott-Craig has injected new life into Cell C, making it his goal to shake up the local mobile market with significantly competitive prices and strongly-worded statements targetting the competition.<\/p>\n
He has introduced a flat-rated service called 99c for real, and has drawn his former employer, Vodacom, into a price-war – while taking the marketing war to MTN.<\/p>\n
Vodacom has seen some big changes this year with the June announcement that CEO, Pieter Uys would be stepping down. On 1 September, Vodafone Spain CEO, Shameel Joosub took over the reins as Vodacom’s CEO.<\/p>\n Joosub previously served as managing director of Vodacom SA from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2011 before taking up the position as CEO of Vodafone Spain on 1 April 2011.<\/p>\n He holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (Honours) from the University of South Africa and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.<\/p>\n During his time as Vodacom group CEO this year, Joosub oversaw the first commercial launch of LTE in South Africa in October. He’s heeded competing operator Cell C’s call to engage on pricing – and has plans to spread Vodacom’s reach further into Africa.<\/p>\n Francois Theron<\/p><\/div>\n On 10 January, Rudi Jansen, Group CEO of MWEB, resigned after 15 years of working at the company. Francois Theron, the former CEO of DSTV Mobile, was appointed to take over from Jansen.<\/p>\n Theron is a silent figure at the head of MWeb, but during his time as head in CEO, MWeb has continued to lead the way in terms of the uncapped ADSL offerings it brought into the mainstream.<\/p>\n With massive price reduction on its uncapped ADSL offerings – and in effect making 1Mbps ADSL the “default” connection speed – MWeb pushed the broadband market into an even more competitive place.<\/p>\n Following from the role Jansen played at MWeb, Theron has filled an important position in the local broadband market.<\/p>\n Eileen Wilton<\/p><\/div>\n JSE-listed ICT group Gijima appointed Eileen Wilton as interim CEO. Wilton took over from Jonas Bogoshi who left the company to pursue other interests.<\/p>\n Bogoshi had been with the ICT company for over 5 years, and his contract ends on 31 December 2012. In the interim, Gijima has placed Wilton to oversee the company during a rather turbulent time.<\/p>\n In its last financial result reporting, Gijima noted that it had lost a significant ICT contract – along with a downscaling of an Absa contract earlier in the year.<\/p>\n Formerly the chief information officer at Old Mutual and Anglo American, Wilton joined\u00a0Gijima earlier this year as its chief operating officer (COO), where her responsibilities included\u00a0working closely with Bogoshi to develop and implement the company’s service delivery and growth\u00a0strategy.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\nShameel Joosub – Vodacom<\/h3>\n
