{"id":283592,"date":"2018-11-15T14:27:42","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T12:27:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=283592"},"modified":"2018-11-15T14:27:42","modified_gmt":"2018-11-15T12:27:42","slug":"fnb-and-absa-to-roll-out-more-smart-id-branches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/283592\/fnb-and-absa-to-roll-out-more-smart-id-branches\/","title":{"rendered":"FNB and Absa to roll out more Smart ID branches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Home Affairs plans to expand its Smart ID and passport partnership with South Africa\u2019s banks, by adding 20 additional branches to the programme in major urban centres.<\/p>\n<p>The Smart ID partnership was launched in 2015, with Standard Bank, Absa, Nedbank and FNB joining the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The service allows South Africans to go to select bank branches to apply for the new Smart ID card, book an appointment to capture biometrics, and then be notified when the card is ready for collection.<\/p>\n<p>The department currently has the Smart ID services available at the following 13 bank branches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Absa Lifestyle Centre \u2013 Centurion<\/li>\n<li>Absa Towers \u2013 Johannesburg<\/li>\n<li>FNB Towers -Johannesburg<\/li>\n<li>FNB Lifestyle Centre \u2013 Centurion<\/li>\n<li>FNB Menlyn \u2013 Pretoria<\/li>\n<li>FNB Merchant \u2013 Sandton<\/li>\n<li>Nedbank Arcadia \u2013 Pretoria<\/li>\n<li>Nedbank Constantia Kloof \u2013 Johannesburg<\/li>\n<li>Nedbank Rivonia \u2013 Sandton<\/li>\n<li>Standard Bank \u2013 Centurion<\/li>\n<li>Standard Bank Killarney Mall \u2013 Johannesburg<\/li>\n<li>Standard Bank Simmonds Street \u2013 Johannesburg<\/li>\n<li>Standard Bank Canal Walk \u2013 Western Cape<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The department has since revealed that, to date, the participating banks have processed in excess of 168,000 Smart IDs and over 152,000 passports.<\/p>\n<p>According to the department, it intends to open 20 more branches in SA banks, targeting other urban areas, such as Durban, Pietermaritzburg, East London, Nelspruit and Polokwane.<\/p>\n<p>Based on feedback from the banks running the trial, the 20 new branches appear to be from FNB and Absa.
