Barack Obama – Four more years<\/h3>\n

After winning the 2012 presidential race, US president Barack Obama took to Twitter to mark his victory. The tweet, along with the accompanying picture, became not only the most retweeted tweet of 2012, but of all time.<\/p>\n

6 year old Avalanna Routh was suffering from a rare type of cancer, and her only dream was to meet her idol, Justin Bieber – and her dream came true on Valentine’s day in 2012. Sadly, Avalanna passed away in September 2012, and Bieber’s tweet paying his repects to her instantly became one of the most poignant and retweeted tweets of the year.<\/p>\n

The American NFL had been using replacement referees for the entire 2012 season due to a labor standoff with the referees\u2019 union – when one of the replacement refs botch a call during a pivotal game, player TJ Lang and other football fans took to Twitter to voice their frustration. Lang’s tweet blew up across the Twittersphere, becoming the most retweeted tweet all season.<\/p>\n
