A rocky start to public trading hasn’t dampened Facebook’s plans to expand it’s Menlo Park headquarters.<\/p>\n

The Facebook Campus, as it stands, features a design that matches it’s age – with a youthful, almost grungey atmosphere for its employees to go about working.<\/p>\n

That means walls lined with chalkboards, giving employees free reign to express themselves – which brings new meaning to writing on someone’s wall.<\/p>\n

As a growing company with a fresh public listing (thus extra cash on hand) Facebook currently has plans to extend its campus in Menlo Park.<\/p>\n

Getting bigger<\/h3>\n

Facebook’s expansion plans involve boosting the 57-acre, nine-building campus – dubbed the “East Campus” – which once housed Sun Microsystems.<\/p>\n

The expansion is quite special, as it is a result of a specially negotiated deal between Facebook and Menlo Park’s government officials.<\/p>\n

The deal involves many payments to the city (between $800,000 and $1.1 million) as well as donations to funds which will be used for developments in the area.<\/p>\n

As a result, Facebook has received special treatment by the city, such as pushing the employee cap up from 3,800 people to 6,600 people.<\/p>\n

Facebook is also looking to build another 22 acres in Menlo Park – dubbed the “West Campus” – which it is planning to start construction on in 2013.<\/p>\n

The West campus would house another 2,800 employees.<\/p>\n
