{"id":28758,"date":"2012-12-18T09:54:31","date_gmt":"2012-12-18T07:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=28758"},"modified":"2012-12-18T09:57:15","modified_gmt":"2012-12-18T07:57:15","slug":"mtn-chairman-seeks-anc-deputy-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/28758\/mtn-chairman-seeks-anc-deputy-post\/","title":{"rendered":"MTN chairman seeks ANC deputy post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MTN Group chairman, Cyril Ramaphosa, has been nominated for the position of\u00a0deputy president of the\u00a0African National Congress (ANC) and will run against\u00a0Mathews Phosa and Tokyo Sexwale.<\/p>\n<p>Voting began after midnight on Tuesday (18 December), at the ANC&#8217;s national elective conference in Manguang in the Free State.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaphosa is independent non-executive director and chairman of the mobile operator, and is also chairman of Bidvest Group. He also sits on the board of brewer, SAB Miller and Standard Bank Group.<\/p>\n<p>Kgalema Motlanthe\u00a0withdrew his candidacy for deputy president and is set to run against\u00a0President Jacob Zuma to lead the ANC.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Forbes ranked Ramaphosa as the 36th richest man in Africa, with a fortune of $275 million, accumulated mostly from mining operations.
