CareerJunction released its November 2012 CareerJunction Index (CJI) recently, revealing a big drop in employment within the telecommunication industry since the middle of the year.<\/p>\n
The CJI monitors the online\u00a0labour market in South Africa by examining supply and demand\u00a0trends.<\/p>\n
“A weakening trend in employment is notable for 2012. Comparing\u00a02011 findings to those of 2012, hiring activity was much lower\u00a0this year,” the job firm said. “Weakening employment within the telecommunication; mining and motor industries during 2012 is undoubtedly linked to\u00a0these findings.”<\/p>\n
According to CareerJunction, following a healthy trend in employment within the IT industry\u00a0during 2012, November brought a slight decrease in job vacancies.\u00a0“However, this trend is expected as the year draws to a close. The\u00a0IT industry remains one of the top three most sought after industries\u00a0on CareerJunction,” it said.<\/p>\n
Employment within the telecommunication industry however, has continuously\u00a0weakened since June 2012. Year-on-year employment has weakened\u00a0by 47%, the employment firm said.<\/p>\n
For potential career seekers per job advert in the IT sector, CareerJunction noted 14.8 applicants, while telecoms gathered\u00a016.3, and\u00a0Science & Technology accumulated 44.53 applicants.<\/p>\n
Media related jobs saw 40.8 applications,\u00a0while the jobs that received the most applicants were those within the sport & fitness sector.\u00a0Building & Construction attracted the least interest, at 8.9 applicants per job, followed by sales posts with nine applicants.<\/p>\n
