{"id":289168,"date":"2018-12-04T13:01:32","date_gmt":"2018-12-04T11:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=289168"},"modified":"2018-12-04T13:01:32","modified_gmt":"2018-12-04T11:01:32","slug":"vodacom-meets-with-eff-over-vandalism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/289168\/vodacom-meets-with-eff-over-vandalism\/","title":{"rendered":"Vodacom meets with EFF over vandalism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Julius Malema and other EFF leaders recently met with Vodacom\u2019s top management, including Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EFFSouthAfrica\/status\/1069686629147774977\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The EFF said in a Twitter post<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that its \u201cleadership met with Black Business Council, MTN Management, and Vodacom Management\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>These meetings took place shortly after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/trending\/287874-vodacom-store-ransacked-after-comment-made-about-eff.html\"><strong>EFF members vandalized Vodacom outlets<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in protest of an image of their leaders at an event hosted by Vodacom.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom told MyBroadband on Sunday that three women were assaulted, and goods stolen from a Vodacom store at the Mall of the North.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom said it condemned any form of violent behaviour, including wanton destruction of property associated with such actions.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the incidents are \u201cseemingly linked\u201d to comments made by Corruption Watch chairperson Mavuso Msimang at the recent Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Msimang said Julius Malema and the EFF were abusers of democracy and showed an image of them during a presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom defended Msimang\u2019s comments, saying it believes in freedom of expression and would not censor Msimang\u2019s views or those of other opinion makers.<\/p>\n<p>EFF Secretary in the Limpopo province, Jossey Buthane, later said there has been no official mandate, request, or statement from the EFF to go to Vodacom shops and protest.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Vodacom-EFF-slides.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-289178\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Vodacom-EFF-slides.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"637\" height=\"423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Vodacom-EFF-slides.png 637w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Vodacom-EFF-slides-300x199.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 637px) 100vw, 637px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why Vodacom met with the EFF<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vodacom has released a joint statement with the EFF, saying it met to discuss comments and slides presented by Msimang,\u00a0and the subsequent unrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the meeting, the parties discussed the matter in detail and have resolved the issue.
