{"id":289206,"date":"2018-12-04T14:51:19","date_gmt":"2018-12-04T12:51:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=289206"},"modified":"2018-12-04T14:58:33","modified_gmt":"2018-12-04T12:58:33","slug":"ramaphosa-announces-advocate-shamila-batohi-as-new-npa-boss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/289206\/ramaphosa-announces-advocate-shamila-batohi-as-new-npa-boss\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramaphosa announces Advocate Shamila Batohi as new NPA boss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa has named Advocate Shamila Batohi as the new national director of Public Prosecutions.<\/p>\n<p>Batohi will replace Shaun Abrahams who was seen as ineffectual in targeting cases that dealt with state capture under former president Jacob Zuma.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement follows an August Constitutional Court order instructing him to appoint a new NDPP within 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2018 President Cyril Ramaphosa invited a number of legal organisations and independent public institutions to help him identify and select individuals for consideration as possible candidates for the position of NDPP.<\/p>\n<p>An eight-member panel led by cabinet minister Jeff Radebe originally shortlisted 11 candidates for the position.<\/p>\n<p>This was narrowed down to five people: Andrea Johnson, Rodney de Kock, Shamila Batohi, Siyabulela Mapoma and Simphiwe Mlotshwa<\/p>\n<p>Batohi has previously worked as a senior legal advisor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and as a prosecutor at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).<\/p>\n<p>She will formally begin in February 2019 as she serves out her notice at the ICC.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/289132\/south-africa-moves-out-of-recession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Africa moves out of recession<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa has named Advocate Shamiela Batohi as the new national director of Public Prosecutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":289254,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23],"tags":[26],"class_list":["post-289206","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-government","tag-headline"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/289206","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/10"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=289206"}],"version-history":[{"count":7,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/289206\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":289258,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/289206\/revisions\/289258"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/289254"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=289206"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=289206"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=289206"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
