The website of Vodacom<\/a>-owned mobile video platform Zoopy<\/a> has been updated with a message that the company will be overhauled into something “vastly different”.<\/p>\n

“Its been 6 years. We’ve decided on a total overhaul. The future looks vastly different, but we know it will be worth it,” the site reads.<\/p>\n

No target date for the overhaul was provided, but Zoopy hints that, through the overhaul, users will be able to “experience the future of Digital TV.”<\/p>\n

Before going offline, Zoopy was a mobile platform producing original content using a team of content producers and news presenters.<\/p>\n

Zoopy is wholly-owned by Vodacom, which acquired a full stake in the company in August 2010.<\/p>\n

No information regarding Vodacom’s new plan or strategy for Zoopy was forthcoming, with the operator saying that no details could be given at this time.<\/p>\n

Cloudy future<\/h3>\n

Zoopy’s future was pulled into question in mid-2012 after its founders and owners, Jason<\/a> and Pat Elk<\/a>, parted ways with the company.<\/p>\n

At the time, Vodacom had confirmed that it was seeking to sell a stake in the company, looking at options which included “bringing in a partner to invest and help grow the business\u201d.<\/p>\n

Following the loss of its founders, Zoopy operated as normal under Vodacom, before going “off air” for two months ahead of a planned relaunch in November 2012.<\/p>\n

The site missed its relaunch and was pulled down completely in December 2012 – at the same time that Vodacom shuttered its other social networking service, The Grid<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the company’s future is unclear, Zoopy content is still available on The Link, which features on SABC 1.<\/p>\n
