{"id":29298,"date":"2013-01-05T10:37:58","date_gmt":"2013-01-05T08:37:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=29298"},"modified":"2013-01-07T13:04:04","modified_gmt":"2013-01-07T11:04:04","slug":"tablet-pcs-to-double-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/hardware\/29298\/tablet-pcs-to-double-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Tablet PCs to double in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sales of tablet computers in India are expected to at least double this year to 6 million, the market&#8217;s third year of growth, as new devices attract business users and low costs draw consumers, research firm <a title=\"CyberMedia\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6675-CyberMedia\">CyberMedia<\/a> forecast.<\/p>\n<p>Sales are likely to have reached 3 million in 2012, up from about 0.5 million in 2011, the firm estimated on Friday, citing data for the quarter to end-September, when companies led by <a title=\"Samsung Electronics Co Ltd\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1813-Samsung\">Samsung Electronics Co Ltd<\/a> sold 1.1 million tablets.<\/p>\n<p>With the launch of low-cost devices running on <a title=\"Google Inc\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1719-Google\">Google Inc<\/a>&#8216;s <a title=\"Android\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1754-Android\">Android<\/a> platform by local firms, sales of tablets and smartphones have grown rapidly in the last two years. A slew of global makers of tablets have also entered the market.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, new tablets based on <a title=\"Microsoft Corp\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1715-Microsoft\">Microsoft Corp<\/a>&#8216;s <a title=\"Windows\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1884-Windows\">Windows<\/a> 8 platform and companies&#8217; adoption of tablets for business applications will change the market significantly again, <a title=\"Faisal Kawoosa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6676-Faisal-Kawoosa\">Faisal Kawoosa<\/a>, lead analyst at CyberMedia&#8217;s telecoms practice, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>India is the world&#8217;s second biggest telecommunications market with about 900 million mobile phone accounts.
