{"id":293500,"date":"2019-01-15T09:23:39","date_gmt":"2019-01-15T07:23:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=293500"},"modified":"2019-01-15T10:37:04","modified_gmt":"2019-01-15T08:37:04","slug":"8-of-the-hottest-and-most-anticipated-cars-coming-to-south-africa-in-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/293500\/8-of-the-hottest-and-most-anticipated-cars-coming-to-south-africa-in-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"8 of the hottest and most anticipated cars coming to South Africa in 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africans are increasingly turning to used cars over newer models, according to a recent report by Wesbank, which notes that consumer demand appears to remain robust across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Considering WesBank application data, consumers are clearly keen to buy cars,&#8221; said Ghana Msibi, WesBank executive head of Sales and Marketing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, a lot of that demand has shifted to the used car market (69% of all applications were for used cars), indicative of the stress in the new car market as well as the worsening household situation with regard to disposable income and general affordability.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>WesBank data also shows that consumers are holding onto their cars for longer, combatting South African motorists&#8217; affordability challenge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While consumers have consistently financed their cars near the maximum period allowed for the past two years, the average period before settlement of those contracts has increased by six months,&#8221; said Msibi.<\/p>\n<p>This shift towards used vehicles may lead to another tough year for new car sales in South Africa. However a number of new and returning models may tempt motorists into splurging on a 2019 model.<\/p>\n<p>Below BusinessTech looked at eight of the most anticipated cars coming to South Africa in expected to\u00a0combine the elegance of a four-door luxury coup\u00e9 with the practical versatility of a large SUV.<\/p>\n<p>Audi said that the SUV coupe will be wider, shorter and lower than its Q7 sister model but will offer a spacious interior that beats its direct competitors in most relevant dimensions.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>BMW 3 Series\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BMW-3-Series-header.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full the\u00a0Paris Motor Show in October, the 2019\u00a03 series features a similar design to past models but is 85 millimetres longer than its predecessor (at 4,709mm), 16 millimetres wider (1,827mm) and just 1 mm taller (1,442 millimetres).<\/p>\n<p>The instrument panel has a modern, light look with horizontal lines, high-quality electroplated trim strips and contours that extend into the doors.<\/p>\n<p>The start\/stop button for the engine is now positioned in a control panel in the centre console that houses the gearshift lever or newly designed selector lever, the iDrive controller, electromechanical parking brake and the buttons for the driving experience control switch unit.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Ford Ranger Raptor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/FordRaptor1-e1518070150198.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-224002 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/FordRaptor1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Measuring 1.87 metres tall (up 52mm), 2.18 metres wide (331mm wider) and 5.39 metres long (30mm longer), the Raptor raises its ground clearance to 283mm, 46mm higher than regular Rangers.<\/p>\n<p>Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine making 157kW of power and 500Nm of torque.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Porsche 911\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Porsche-e1543384241298.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full of November 2018, Porsche revealed the eighth-generation instalment of its 54-year-old sports car &#8211; the 2020 Porsche 911.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>Porsche showed the new 911, known internally as 992, in two versions for its world premiere: a two-wheel-drive 911 Carrera S and an all-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4S.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Toyota height=\"433\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From every angle, the new Corolla sedan looks lower and leaner, tauter and tighter, according to Toyota.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020 Corolla sedan L, LE, and XLE grades will use the 1.8-litre engine found in the previous generation, yet with more horsepower and better fuel efficiency.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Range Rover Evoque<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new Evoque features more pronounced shoulders and wheel arches, alongside 21-inch wheels.<\/p>\n<p>Other notable external changes include the introduction of super-slim Matrix LED headlamps, and\u00a0flush door handles.<\/p>\n<p>The new Range Rover Evoque is also the first to feature Ground View technology, which effectively makes the bonnet invisible by projecting camera imagery onto the upper touchscreen to show the driver a 180-degree view under the front of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Toyota Prius (2019)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Prius-Header.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new Prius is the first Toyota to benefit from Hybrid AWD-i, an electric all-wheel-drive system.<\/p>\n<p>The smart system uses an additional high-torque electric motor to provide extra drive through the rear axle when required.<\/p>\n<p>It is engineered to engage automatically when pulling away, at speeds up to 11 km\/h, and when sensors detect low-grip conditions \u2013 wet and slippery road surfaces \u2013 at speeds between 11 km\/h and 70 km\/h.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Volkswagen T-Cross<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/T-Cross-1-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-280185 sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen announced its new T-Cross in Ocotber 2018 \u2013 the company\u2019s first small car SUV.<\/p>\n<p>The car manufacturer said that the T-Cross is shorter and therefore better suited to the city than the T\u2013Roc, and even more compact than the Tiguan.<\/p>\n<p>Standard equipment for the new T-Cross includes numerous driver assistance systems which were previously reserved for higher vehicle classes, Volkswagen said.<\/p>\n<p>Already included as standard equipment are the Front Assist area monitoring system with Pedestrian Monitoring and City Emergency Braking System, the lane keeping assistant Lane Assist, Hill Start Assist, the proactive occupant protection system, and the Blind Spot Detection lane change
