{"id":2945,"date":"2012-01-17T09:25:19","date_gmt":"2012-01-17T09:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=2945"},"modified":"2012-01-17T09:27:30","modified_gmt":"2012-01-17T09:27:30","slug":"zte-sees-surge-in-smartphone-shipments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/2945\/zte-sees-surge-in-smartphone-shipments\/","title":{"rendered":"ZTE sees surge in smartphone shipments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/367636-ZTE-Corporation\" target=\"_blank\">ZTE Corp<\/a>, the world&#8217;s No.4 handset maker, said on Tuesday that it expects its global smartphone shipments to at least double this year as it seeks to boost margins in the competitive sector, and plans to launch <a title=\"Term Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/forumdisplay.php\/229-Windows-Phone\" target=\"_blank\">Windows-based<\/a> smartphones later this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The United States and China will be key engines driving our smartphone sales,&#8221; Lv Qianhao, head of handset strategy, told Reuters in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>Lv said ZTE&#8217;s smartphone shipments had far exceeded a target of 12 million last year as the Shenzhen-based company shifted to higher end smartphones from churning out feature phones in an effort to boost profit margins.<\/p>\n<p>ZTE, which is also China&#8217;s No.2 telecommunications equipment maker, competes with domestic companies such as <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/347796-Huawei\" target=\"_blank\">Huawei Technologies<\/a> Co Ltd and global names such as <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314603-Nokia-Corporation\" target=\"_blank\">Nokia<\/a> Oyj and <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/333656-Samsung\" target=\"_blank\">Samsung Electronics<\/a> Co Ltd in mobile phones and tablet PCs.<\/p>\n<p>ZTE was the fourth-largest mobile phone maker in the third quarter, according to IDC, ABI Research and Strategy Analytics.
