Springleap<\/a> founder, Eran Eyal<\/a> says that he will move to Halifax in Canada and New York in the United States as part of a strategy to grow the business in new territories.<\/p>\n

A media report recently stated that Springleap, a crowdsourcing online design startup, will move to Halifax in 2013. This move, the report said, will include a new round of funding.<\/p>\n

However, Eyal explained that this is only partially correct.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not closing shop [In Cape Town] – we are pursuing an opportunity to expand to new territories. The team will remain here [Cape Town] whilst I move to Halifax, New York City and part of the year still in Cape Town,\u201d said Eyal.<\/p>\n

Eyal said that Halifax presents an opportunity for him to be closer to North America, where he believes sales and development opportunities are very attractive.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government of Nova Scotia and the tech community there have made me feel very welcome,\u201d said Eyal.<\/p>\n

Eyal\u2019s move to Halifax, which follows Vinny Lingham\u2019s move to Silicon Valley, raised some eyebrows regarding the Silicon cape initiative which is supposed to develop IT businesses in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n

The Springleap founder dismissed these concerns, saying that Silicon cape can hold its own against other IT development communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not about competition. It’s about what is appropriate for the particular opportunity. For us, North America is a key part of our growth strategy,\u201d said Eyal.<\/p>\n
