It&#8217;s not secure,&#8221; said <a title=\"Jaime Blasco\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6765-Jaime-Blasco\">Jaime Blasco<\/a>, Labs Manager with <a title=\"AlienVault Labs\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6766-AlienVault-Labs\">AlienVault Labs<\/a>. &#8220;You have to disable it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Java, which is installed on hundreds of millions of PCs around the globe, is a computer language that enables programmers to write software using just one set of code that will run on virtually any type of computer.<\/p>\n<p>It is used so that Web developers can make sites accessible from browsers running on <a title=\"Microsoft Corp\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1715-Microsoft\">Microsoft Corp<\/a> <a title=\"Windows\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1884-Windows\">Windows<\/a> PCs or Macs from <a title=\"Apple Inc\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1648-Apple\">Apple Inc<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Computer users access those programs through modules, or plug-ins, that run Java software on top of browsers such as <a title=\"Internet Explorer\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6767-Internet-Explorer\">Internet Explorer<\/a> and <a title=\"Firefox\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4972-Firefox\">Firefox<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Three computer security experts told Reuters on Thursday that computer users should disable those Java modules to protect themselves from attack.<\/p>\n<p>A spokeswoman for Oracle said she could not immediately comment on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is like open hunting season on consumers,&#8221; said HD Moore, chief security officer with Rapid7, a company that helps businesses identify critical security vulnerabilities in their networks.<\/p>\n<p>Moore said machines running on Mac OS X, Linux or Windows all appear to be vulnerable to attack.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Marc Maiffret\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6769-Marc-Maiffret\">Marc Maiffret<\/a>, chief technology officer with <a title=\"BeyondTrust\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6768-BeyondTrust\">BeyondTrust<\/a>, said that businesses may need to keep using Java to access some websites and Internet-based programs that run on the technology.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The challenge is mainly for businesses, however, which have to use it for some applications,&#8221;
